Moving from Arlington to Irving: what expect?

Both cities, Arlington and Irving, are a part of and located within the broader Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex (DFW). This metropolitan statistical area has officially been named Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington. Metropolitan statistical area is the term that refers to a geographical region that has a relatively high population density, as well as an intertwined economy throughout the area. This area is not however an administrative unit or legally incorporated as a town or a city. This further means that if you are moving from Arlington to Irving, you can expect some differences between the two places. So, before you call movers in DFW to relocate you, it can be useful to inform yourself about the similarities and differences you might encounter after your move.

What can you expect when moving from Arlington to Irving?

Should you be moving from Arlington to Irving?

The two cities had had a bit of rivalry going on in the past. This is due to Dallas Cowboys moving their team from Irving to Arlington in 2009. Therefore you might be wondering should you be going in the opposite direction. Before you call movers Arlington TX to cancel the move, take time to consider their reasons. One of the main causes for the famous football team changing location was primarily the station capacity. At the time, Arlington was more willing than Irving or Dallas to invest quite a large amount of money in building a venue that would accommodate the team. But, unless you are planning to house an entire NFL team and a few hundred thousand spectators, moving from Arlington to Irving might be more advantageous for you, which we will discuss in the further text.

What kind of movers should you hire?

While Arlington and Irving are less than a half an hour’s drive away from each other, they are different cities. So it might be hard to decide what sort of movers to hire. You could hire local companies from either palace, or you could hire a company that provides long-distance moving services. This is probably the best option, as they are more likely to be familiar with the outlay of both cities. This means that they should be more efficient in transporting your belongings from one place to the other. Knowing how to avoid traffic jams, narrow streets, and any other potential issues that can arise when driving a big truck through a busy metropolitan street.

What are your transportation options after moving from Arlington to Irving?

The downside of living in a metropolitan area is certainly the traffic. Irving is not an exception to this rule. If you have a job in the city, the commutation process by a car might not take that long, but if you are traveling for work to Dallas for example it could take some time. You can expect slow-moving during the rush hours, 7 am to 9 am and 4 pm to 6 pm. This is when most people go to or arrive back from work. The DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) goes through Irving, which makes it easier to commute into downtown Dallas or other parts of the metropolitan area. There are also some important highways and roads that run through the city as well.

Living close to the airport has plus sides and drawbacks.

Irving also happens to be close to the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. In fact, it is located along the western city limit. The DFW Airport is the fourth busiest airport not only in the USA but on the planet. This is both good and bad news for the inhabitants. On the one hand, being so close to a major hub of American airlines can have its perks. On the other, this means that those living close to the airport have to contend with all the noise and crowd as well as an occasional low flying plane. Of course, it depends on the part of the city you live in. If you prefer a more quiet environment living close to the airport is not the best option for you.

Comparing living costs

As said before, the economy is closely connected throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. Therefore, there is not much difference between the cost of living in Irving versus Arlington. On the other hand, if you decide to call movers Irving TX to relocate you there, you could still be looking at a slightly positive net change in disposable income. Moving from Arlington to Irving, the cost of living is calculated to be around 0.8% higher but, the average salary is also higher. It is estimated that employers in Irving pay around 2.1% more for a similar type of work in a similar type of company than the employers in Arlington. So, if you already have a job lined up after the move, it is likely that you will be a little financially better of than you were before.

Compare costs of living before moving to a new city.
